Fuel Leak Incident—Corrective Action
September 8, 2009
The last FON explained a recent incident where there was an in-flight fuel leak. The leak went undected until a large fuel stain was spotted underneath the right wing the next day. The last FON explain how this happened and the various causes. The following is the corrective action taken by LFS to prevent further occurrences like this:
Corrective Action: General
As a corrective response to this incident we will be introducing a new SOP for Instructors on dual flights & students on every flight: Pre-Boarding Check. This is effective immediately. The concept here is for a quick visual inspection prior to boarding the aircraft. This should include a general inspection of the airframe, fuel caps, tires, oleos, fuel drains, and cowling/nacelle latches.

Corrective Action: Dual Flights
Prior to departing on a dual flight, the student should conduct a Pre-Boarding Check. Then before the Instructor boards, he or she should also conduct a Pre-Boarding Check.
Corrective Action: Solo Flights
Prior to departing on a solo flight, the student (or PIC) should conduct a Pre-Boarding Check.
Should you have any questions or concerns please contact myself or your Flight Instructor.
